Our DETOUR program provides seniors 65 years or older in need of immediate care with up to 14 days of care and respite at a local retirement home.
For seniors with recurring health issues, a trip to the emergency room due to illness or injury can be an expensive and inefficient option, especially if the hospital has few beds available.
Rather than being admitted to hospital, our DETOUR (Deterring Emergency Time Offering Urgent Respite) program allows us to "detour" clients to one of the designated beds at a local retirement home. Here our nurse coordinator screens the client and creates a care plan that is implemented during their stay. The client has access to the services and activities at the retirement home, including meals, social activities and therapeutic supports.
Our nurse coordinator also works with the client and their family to find a longer-term solution for care once the client’s respite stay is over.
