Hamilton Overnight Respite Programs Reopens

After two years of being closed due to the pandemic, the VON Hamilton Overnight Respite Centre has reopened its doors, again welcoming clients to stay at their ‘home away from home’ and allowing their caregivers to have a much needed break.

While the program was closed, staff were redeployed to assist in other essential programs, such as Meals on Wheels. Plans were to reopen the program in January 2022, the Omicron variant impacting resources and caused further delays. The team is excited to get back to some form of normalcy and celebrated with a ribbon cutting during the two year anniversary, almost to the day.

The program will initially provide support every other weekend, on Friday and Saturday nights until it gradually builds back up to the 24/7 operation that it was originally.

“We are so proud of our team for their perseverance, resilience and dedication to exceptional client care. They have pivoted at every twist and turn that was thrown at them as they took on new work, including delivering meals and care packages to clients’ homes, and providing mobile adult day services one on one,” said Krista Law, Manager, Home and Community Care, CSS, HNHB. “The team is very excited to be back doing the work that they love. It was a successful first weekend and they are looking forward to many more!”
