October: A month for recognition in our sector
Sector recognition months are happening in October in both Nova Scotia and Ontario:
Community Support Month, as declared by the Ontario Community Support Association (OCSA), is an opportunity to celebrate and raise awareness about the value of these services. The month recognizes the 20,000 employees and 100,000 volunteers delivering essential home and community care services across Ontario through charities and not-for-profit agencies, including VON.
Community Care Month, as declared by the Health Association of Nova Scotia (HANS), #SharetheCareNS, is focused on staff recruitment and retention. HANS hopes to drive traffic to the Share the Care website https://protect-ca.mimecast.com/s/nqn9CyoNYzCX1LZUZRTOY?domain=sharethecarens.ca/ where prospective employees can listen to and watch employee video testimonials of the amazing people who work in the continuing care and direct support sectors.
Both these monthly themes give VON an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the many caring and dedicated people who work within our sector. It allows us to highlight the positive difference these dedicated professionals make in the lives of those that they support, each and every day.
