‘Donate Joy’ fundraiser raises thousands for VON Nova Scotia in 24-hours
A determined centenarian, Joy Saunders, is walking a 0.8km route in her Nova Scotia neighbourhood 102 times before she turns 102 years old in late October, all to raise funds for VON Canada. Since announcing her goal, she has raised $25,000 and counting for VON’s work in Nova Scotia!
Joy’s idea for this fundraiser came from 100-year-old WWII veteran from the UK, Captain Tom Moore, who also walked to raise funds for the National Health Service (NHS) during COVID-19. Joy is hoping to inspire others on this side of the pond, through her walking in support of VON.
Joy was a 30-year volunteer with VON and is dedicating her walking fundraiser to Kristen Beaton and Heather O’Brien, two VON employees who were lost in the tragedy that shocked Nova Scotia on April 19, 2020.
